Paper Splint is used for strong chair bottoms. Weave it into your ladderback-style and shaker-style chairs using the traditional twill pattern (chairs that have 4 rungs around the seat). An interesting material for basketry as well. Not necessary to wet the material when weaving, but misting it a bit with water is ok. Approximately 200 feet per pound. 1 pound is enough to bottom a chair seat that measures 13 inches x 10 inches.
Check out our free instructions for chair seating. The instructions in the link below show using flat reed; however, you would weave a seat with paper splint in the same manner, with two exceptions: 1. you would not soak the paper splint in water and 2. paper splint does not have a smooth and a rough side as does flat reed.
