Author Judith Olney gives instructions and insights for the baskets she learned to make from Claude Medford, Jr., a one-quarter Choctaw Indian, during a 5-day class in 1988. This CD includes Medford's description of harvesting and processing river cane; however, Olney recommends that beginners to this technique use 11/64" to 1/4" Flat Oval Reed. Clear instructions and descriptions are accompanied by 91 photographs and many graphs. Diagonally plaited basket patterns include a square to round basket with a typically Choctaw rolled border, a boat basket, and the square to round with woven-in designs. Olney also discusses cutting material, dyeing, and color organization. The book on this CD is in Adobe PDF format.
