Description

Feast your eyes on some beautiful work done around 1996 by sculptural and fiber artists Dorothy Gill Barnes and John Garrett.

"My intent is to construct a vessel or related object using materials respectfully harvested from nature. The unique properties I find in bark, branches, roots, seaweed and stone suggest a work process to me. I want this problem solving to be evident in the finished piece. Some of these structures are basket like." Artist statement, Dorothy Gill Barnes.

John Garrett conducts a "dialogue with material," wrote Marcia Morse in American Craft Magazine. The quiet colors of Garrett's work are those of rural New Mexico where he was born and now resides. He creates quilts, baskets, installations and sculptures.

New Works, Brown / Grotta Gallery, Wilton, Connecticut

This catalog is printed in black and white; 26 photos. 8.25 x 5.5 inches, 16 pages, 1996.
