Author Dianne Stanton tells us that in the early 19th century, New England Native Americans wove storage baskets and decorated them by dyeing, swabbing and stamping. The colors and designs on this basket were inspired by an antique, lidded, black ash storage basket at The Peabody Museum at Harvard University (Cambridge, Massachusetts). This basket measures 13" long x 8" wide x 6" deep (8" deep with the handles). Woven of flat reed with wooden strips and bushel handles.
