The holes in most Wooden Drilled Bases are sized for #4 Round Reed. Occasionally the Reed may vary in size, it may be a bit larger in diameter, or your holes may be a bit small. Here’s how to enlarge the holes if needed.
1. Using a small awl, it's easy to enlarge each hole by pushing the awl into the hole and widening the hole. We recommend enlargening the hole from both the top and the bottom side of the wooden base.

2. Also, when cutting the Spokes to the length stated in the pattern, cut the ends of the #4 Round Reed at a sharp angle, rather than cutting the ends bluntly. The sharply-angled end is easier to insert than the blunt end after enlargening the hole with the awl.

3. Twisting the #4 Round Reed Spoke a bit as it's being inserted will aid in pushing the Spoke through the hole.
