It is the job of the Certificate Authority to verify the identity of merchants and issue each a digital certificate, or authentication certificate.

Data Transfer:
Data transfer is the amount of information downloaded from a web site. For example, let's assume all of the data (pictures, text, buttons) on your homepage totals 25k (the size of Yahoo's homepage). If a thousand people viewed your homepage you'd have 25MB total data transfer for that month (25k multiplied by 1000). Our Standard Hosting comes with 80 times that amount! Our experience has shown that the typical active business site uses about 20MB of data transfer per month. In fact, less than one percent of our users exceed 1000MB per month of data transfer. Our Standard Hosting service comes with 3000MB of data transfer per month, while Commerce Hosting comes with a whopping 7000MB of data transfer per month. If you do need to go over your allotment, extra bandwidth is just $.04 per MB thereafter.

Disk Space:
Disk space is the storage capacity of your web site (for pictures, HTML, graphics, etc.). Standard Hosting comes with 100MB, while Commerce Hosting sites can store 200MB of data.

Domain Registration:
Domain Name Registration is the process of registering your web site address (i.e. www.basketmakerscatalog.com) with the InterNIC, the official Internet registry. This service is provided free of charge to all our customers; however, there is a small fee ($35 per year) paid directly to the InterNIC. This process is usually quick because of our status as an InterNIC Premier Partner. In order to sign-up for any hosting account, you must have a registered domain name.

E-mail Autoresponders:
Autoresponders allow you to automatically send out standardized e-mails when any of your mailboxes receives a message. All of our hosting plans allows you to set up several autoresponders free of charge.

E-mail Forwarding:
When you first set up your hosting account, all e-mails will be sent to your "default" address (i.e. admin@yourcompany.com). If you wish, you can change the name on your e-mail addresses and the mail will automatically be forwarded.

E-Mail Mailboxes:
There are two fundamental components of e-mail: 1) the address itself; and 2) the mailbox into which messages are deposited. Our hosting accounts include plenty of mailboxes which you can assign to staff or family members, or use to separate your mail into logical departments (sales, support, etc.). If you or your staff already have mailboxes at work, or with an ISP, you don't have to reconfigure your mail client. You can forward your domain e-mail to any mailbox on the Internet. For example, let's assume your domain name is www.bobstowing.com, and you already have a mailbox on AOL named bob12. You can configure your account so that sales@bobstowing.com forwards to bob12@aol.com. This way, you will receive all of your e-mail in one place.

FrontPage:
Our servers combine the performance and reliability of UNIX with the ease of use and time-saving features in Microsoft FrontPage. FrontPage support is actually compiled into the web server daemon for maximum speed and compatibility. You can install or remove the FrontPage extensions from your account at will, right from the on-line control panel. FrontPage extensions are available on all our hosting accounts, and there are no installation, setup, or usage fees involved. Our customers find our FrontPage support to be far superior to WindowsNT-based hosting services.

MIVA Merchant Shopping Cart:
Let your customers do their "virtual shopping" with the help of MIVA Merchant Shopping Cart software. Visitors to your site can gather your products in a virtual shopping cart for online purchase. Customers may view the contents of their cart at any time during their shopping trip and add or delete items if necessary. The shopping cart calculates the totals, including tax and shipping charges. When your visitor is ready to "check out", their order information is sent via e-mail to your order department and a receipt is sent to the shopper.

SSL:
Secure Socket Layer (SSL) is an emerging standard developed by Netscape Communications to transfer information securely across the Internet. SSL will enable your customer's browser to connect to your web site and transparently negotiate a secure communication channel. Once this connection has been made, information (i.e. credit card numbers) can be exchanged securely.

Standard Hosting:
Standard Hosting is the most affordable way to establish your online presence. Your web site will be fully equipped to market your business and communicate more effectively with your customers and employees. And our hefty disk space and data transfer will give you room to grow as your company expands its business on the web. All Standard Hosting accounts reside on high-speed, multi-processor servers, linked by redundant T3s to the Internet backbone.

Sub-Domains:
In addition to a domain name, some companies choose to further distinguish their web pages with a sub-domain. A typical use for a sub-domain would be a large company such as IBM that has numerous locations and divisions around world. In addition to ibm.com, IBM also has austin.ibm.com. Sub-domains are a good way to have several sites on the Internet without having to pay for multiple domain names.

T3 Connection:
Connections to the Internet vary widely in capacity. A typical home user connects at 28,800 bits per second, or 28.8kbps. A typical office might have a slightly faster connection of 128kbps. A large business might even have a 1,550kbps connection, which is also known as a T1 (or terrestrial backbone connection). We use connections which are 29 times faster than a T1-T3 connections that connect to the Internet at 45,000 bits per second! And to ensure complete reliability and peak performance, We maintain multiple T3s (with multiple, high-speed connections traffic is routed over whichever link is "closer" to it's destination). The connections are constantly monitored, and future bandwidth needs are forecast months in advance so there is never a shortage of capacity.

Virtual Secure Server:
Secure web pages are delivered on the web using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) technology. The URLs for secure web pages are prefaced by "https" instead of the normal "http". All our hosting accounts include SSL support as a standard feature. Moreover, We do not require customers to use a central, generic server or domain name to use SSL -- every server and domain is SSL enabled.

Virtual FTP Server:
Just like the web and mail, FTP (File Transfer Protocol) services can also be "virtualized". All our hosting accounts include a virtual FTP server, which can be accessed with the URL ftp://ftp.yourdomain.com. The FTP service is a great way to distribute files to clients or the public.
