October 26 through October 28, 2017
10/26/2017 through 10/28/2017
Don't miss this amazing opportunity to learn from internationally acclaimed artist Jackie Abrams of Brattleboro, Vermont. Jackie has woven baskets for over 40 years; she teaches fiber arts from Texas to Australia to Ghana. Join us as we extend to Jackie a warm welcome-back to Kentucky!
Jackie's classes are filled with color, technique and fun! In this year's workshop, Jackie guides students as they explore the possibilities of color, painting two full sheets of cotton watercolor paper to be used in their baskets. Cutting the painted paper and creating hexagonal weave baskets follows in this inspiring and intense 3-day workshop for intermediate to advanced weavers. You'll find watercolor papers to be a wonderfully versatile and user-friendly material! Call today to sign up; class size is limited.
In this workshop you'll learn to weave baskets inspired by an ancient Asian technique. Shape the basket as you weave the first layer using the openwork hexagonal weave (just like the Shaker cheese baskets). Interlace layers of other colors to create a strong basket of color patterns. Also explore the techniques of "midare," an irregular random plaiting. Experiment with the possibilities of form, size, and color. Covers are possible! Class fee includes enough paper for two medium-sized baskets, one basket to be completed in class plus the option of purchasing and painting extra sheets of paper to take home with you. Please let us know if you want to purchase extra sheets of paper at the time of registration; $20.00/sheet includes painting and cutting during the workshop.

As Jackie tells all her students,
“You will be encouraged to pursue your own ideas and incorporate them into your baskets.
The diversity of results is always inspiring.”
