Sweetgrass (Hierochloe odorata) was, and is, very widely used by North American indigenous peoples. As a sacred plant, it is used in peace and healing rituals. Soak the sweetgrass in warm water for several minutes until thoroughly saturated. Wrap loosely in an old towel so the grass retains its moisture. Keep grass damp while working. You may soak and wrap the sweetgrass the night before you begin.

To store any unused material, spread the grass out and allow it to air dry.

To restore the sweet aroma, mist with water.
